It's happening

For all those of you that started with me way back at the beginning about six months ago, thank you for your ongoing support and friendship. To those that have just come on board, welcome. I feel that I have achieved the first big step forward in my attempt to go from house wife to best selling author in 3, 2, 1.

My first solo novel, Walk on the Wild Side; The reinvention of Violet Monte, will be out in May 2015. It has been written, edited, proof read, formatted, had a cover designed for it. All that's left is to publish it oh and for it to become a best seller of course. (Hey you can't hate me for being positive can you?)

It's a scary prospect but I'm ready. I know some feedback will be positive and I know some won't be. But it's okay, it's a beginning. I've started my adventure. You will never get anywhere in life if you never take that first step. So here I go... in May I publish through a great publishing company called Booktrope. They have been supportive and fantastic from the get go. They have taken on a complete newbie and given me guidance and made publishing easy for me. They also gave me the confidence boost I needed.

I scored the loveliest editor on the face of the earth called Vicki Sly. She has a way of critically editing and suggesting changes without once causing hurt feelings or making me feel like I was a terrible writer. She got through numerous edits with me and never once uttered the words "don't give up your day job."  (Lucky because I already have.)

My Proofreader and project manager and book manager is one in the same the lovely Samantha March. Some would say she is a glutton for punishment but she is absolutely efficient and clever and I have complete faith in her and her abilities (I said she's awesome as well, didn't I?).

Then Tatiana Villa did a great job helping to design the cover. It is reflective of everything I wanted it to be. Fun, girly and pink :) She put up with me being picky and never complained. She may have cursed me in the privacy of her own home, I will never know but she was always 100% fantastic to my face and that's what counts right?

I have been so lucky to go into this with such a great team behind me. I feel so fortunate and thankful. At the risk of this beginning to sound a little like an Oscars speech I would also like to mention some great friends that I have met over the last few months. They have all helped in their own way, be it editing or beta reading or opinions on the cover or just trying to keep me sane (Believe me that's a tough job some days.)

Eeva Lancaster for being the nagging mum voice in my ear. I mean this in the best possible way of course. She wants the best for me and is always trying to kick my butt into shape and is constantly reassuring me because she knows I need it. I love this woman like the sister I never had.

I also want to mention S.J Hermann. He has become a great friend and supporter and an ear and we talk about everything from writing to food to zombies to more food. I know he loves me because he read Chick Lit for me. That is an accomplishment that I will never let him forget.

Then there is Patty Seitz, I discovered this lovely lady by accident and became instant friends. Not to mention she is the coolest person I know, mainly but not solely because she lives in Vegas. Really!

Then of course there are the wenches. This is a group of ladies who I would entrust everything I have. They are all writers and they are all fantastic. They have a blog if you want to check them out and gain some wench lovin' of your own its

Oh and of course all of you lovely readers and friends. You guys keep me company and prevent me talking solely to a screen. I love getting comments from you all, it really makes my day so thank you.

Anyway... on with the point of this blog today. Tomorrow I will be sharing the cover of Walk on the Wild Side; The reinvention of Violet Monte. In the mean time here is a little teaser... Enjoy and I'll see you tomorrow x

Who's next?

As you all know I am featuring the 8 Authors and their stories from the 'Fools Rush In' Anthology.
Here is the next installment.

Laurie Baxter – Who Does He Think He’s Fooling?

It’s April Fools’ Day at ACME Office Amusements and boss Jessica is encouraging a little friendly pranking. But pals Tom and Amy have other things on their minds after an uncomfortable incident the night before has left things more than a little awkward between them.

Laurie Baxter has degrees in both puppetry and screenwriting because let's face it, majoring in English would have been no more useful and way less fun. She loves chocolate, ice cream, chocolate ice cream, dogs, New York City, old movies, modern architecture, all kinds of theatre, and music from before she was born. Her eighth grade English teacher told her to become a writer, so she did.

So she Isn't just a fantastic writer but one heck of a nice lady as well. I'm sure you will love her story as much as I did, the first time I read it.

Next we have A lady who is beautiful inside and out.

Whitney Dineen – Fools In Love
Forty something, Corrine Breslin, is divorced and feeling fabulous for the first time in years! Enter a business trip to Chicago and an accidental run-in with former high school debate partner, Ryan Rosco. April Fool’s Day weaves a magic spell on this couple, insuring a happy ending for all.

While attending the University of Illinois in Chicago, Whitney Dineen was discovered by a local modeling agent and began an unexpected career as a plus-size Ford model. She modeled in New York City before moving to Los Angeles with her husband. During “The Hollywood Years,” Whitney was bitten by the writing bug and started creating characters that are inspired by strong women with a great sense of humor. She is the author of the best-selling romantic comedy, She Sins at Midnight. Her second book, The Reinvention of Mimi Finnegan, is due out in May, 2015.  In addition to writing romantic comedies, Whitney has also created a series of adventure books for girls. The first of which, Wilhelmina and the Willamette Wig Factory, will be released in the autumn of 2015. Whitney and her husband live in the beautiful Pacific Northwest where they raise their children, chickens and organic vegetables

So.. Are you intrigued? Yes, no, maybe? If you want to check it out for yourself, it is now free on Amazon Australia and well as AND iBooks and Smashwords and Barnes and Noble. Phew! The links are below. x

Fools Rush in- Fool Me Once

Hi there friends. Over the next few days I will be continually updating my blog with the individual story synopsis and a picture of the cover of all 8 individual stories in the Anthology, Fools rush in. (I tried to do them all at once but I am technically challenged and couldn't do it so one at a time it is.) Last time I introduced you to Maddison Leary from my story, Operation: Tom Foolery. This time I introduce you to Alexandria Jewitt who features in S.E.Babin's story 'Fool Me Once'

When Alex snags the attention of Beckett Dean, the most popular guy in high school, she knows something is afoot.  After all, she’s nerdy, awkward and her braces can be seen from outer space. Surely Beckett’s interest isn’t romantic.
Beckett is focused on popularity and maintaining his rep as one of the coolest guys in school. When Alex becomes a target for the town’s annual April Fools’ joke, Beckett reluctantly befriends her, only to ultimately ruin the rest of her high school days. Devastated at his behavior, he tries for weeks to apologize. Alex, though, wants nothing to do with him.
Fast forward several years. Alex is successfully running her own business. She still thinks about Beckett, but in an angry stabby way.  When their paths collide once again, will Beckett’s apologies still fall on deaf ears or will she finally grant him the forgiveness he seeks?

I loved this story and I'm sure you guys will as well. You will cheer for Alex as she goes from awkward to awesome. Sometimes second chances are worth the risk.

My first book YAY!

I feel like I've been neglecting you all lately. The simple truth is.. I had nothing to say. I have been at home writing and looking after children and moving house. Which, just let me say, was so much worse than I had anticipated. Normal people may have a few old school books they kept from their children's first years.. Me.. I have books from MY first years at school. Anyway moving on.. At last.. I have news!

For all those following my writing journey, it has just had a giant leap forward. My first book is out. Ok well it isn't technically my book. It's an anthology. So myself and 7 other lovely ladies have come together and compiled a book of shorts. They are all based on April Fools Day and pranking people.

Now anyone that knows anything about me knows this is right up my ally. A dear friend of mine used to be my victim every year for years and years. I hope this book doesn't spark her memory and she decides to seek revenge, although lets face it, I would totally deserve it.

So here it is...

So what do you think? Looks very pretty and girly I think. I have better news. It's FREE!! Okay that isn't great news for me. I am now a poor starving artist after all. But it IS great news for YOU!

If you would like to download it.. here are the links.. I would really, really appreciate it.

Barnes and Noble:

and iBooks of course.

Not convinced you want to take the time to download yet? Here is my individual story blurb.

                         Suzie Jay- Operation: Tom Foolery.

Maddison Leary can't stand her job. She wishes she could quit but can't afford it. Things start to look up when her usually mean spirited boss Angela asks for her help to organize an April Fools' Day prank to play on her brother Tom. Maddison is relieved to see Angela's fun and playful side until she realizes there are evil intentions behind this prank. Now she is involved and can't see a way out. The last thing she wants to do is to hurt the kind hearted and very handsome Tom Pritchard. Can she save herself and Tom from an April Fools' Day disaster

Thanks for reading. Next week I will introduce you to the Authors. They are a lovely bunch and I am fortunate to call them friends.

Remember, reviews are like gold to us so if you are kind enough to download our free book and enjoy it (I'm sure you will.) I would be forever grateful for an Amazon review.

Thanks guys- happy reading. Stay safe until next time... Suzie Jay

Bully Bully

It is no secret that the internet is full of trolls and bullies. These consist of many weirdo's, freaks and nasties and are often people who wouldn't dare speak up in their real life so take out their anger, shrouded by the protective anonymity of their computer screens. The only positive about these types is that they are recognised for what they are and their opinions and hurtful words are often discounted immediately. Basically, no one listens to the crap they dribble because they are tools.

My concern is the rapidly emerging onslaught of a new type of internet bully. These are less common and often over looked. I'm talking about the grammar Nazi. These sneaky little suckers, slip into conversations and not only get away with bullying but try to come out looking like they have preformed a public service. No one ever questions them. They let it go and the bullying continues in the fear that another onslaught of comma courtesy will be discussed in depth.

Although this type annoys me somewhat, it is a minor irritation. Like my husband when I wrote him a heart felt note. I expressed my undying love and listed all the things I love about him. His response- "You spelled affection wrong." Umm okay, thanks for the spelling lesson. Can you help me spell divorce?

Then there are the bullies that try to start arguments and when they can't think of a decent comeback they turn into your tenth grade English teacher and pick faults with your spelling because they have nothing else. Pft, dude you lost, move on!

A lot of these people, cause a severe case of eye rolling on my side of the computer but to tell the truth, most of it is my own fault. I often don't use punctuation, not because I can't but because I'm lazy. I can't be bothered. If I write cant or can't, I have reason to believe you can read both just fine. So I'm not stopping to add an apostrophe just to keep others happy. I'm not going to let an apostrophe slow down my thoughts. I have too much other shit to do.

The type that really, really get my goat are the ones that pick on people that don't know better. I have a dear friend. She is smart and funny and gives the best advise about pretty much everything. Unfortunately she has an issue with spelling. She always has for as long as I've known her and I'm pretty old so it's been awhile. Quite often when she is on social media, trying to chat with her friends, others will come on and correct her spelling or laugh at her attempts to express herself through the written word. This really irks me, She doesn't deserve that ridicule and if you can read it enough to understand her point- who freakin' cares. Maybe take note of the message more so than the grammar.

These bullies are not helping, they are not educating us. They are causing us severe rectal pain- so please, just read this and don't point out my mistakes because to do so would be a social etiquette mistake on your behalf, so read, enjoy and leave positive comments.  Luv yas (See what I did there? heehee)
